This quantitative study’s population was first year students at a private Higher Education Institution (HEI) enrolled in English as module in their Diploma in Journalism qualification. Data was gathered through the use of a questionnaire. Respondents indicated that collaborative learning improved their English language proficiency and learning of language due to its social setting communicative nature. It was established that the interactive interaction provided a support system through collaborative group dynamics. This study is exploratory and therefore limited in scope and depth.
